Venus faintly smiled as she walked through the park. There were lines of flowers neatly planted along the path, neatly taking care of. Water jutted across the grass, keeping the trees and shrubs well moistened. Off in the distance, she could see a man with a cart walking around picking up trash and emptying out recycling and trash cans. It was very peaceful to her, everyone respected the cities parks. So, she scarcely ever felt saddened here. It gave her a great place to think and breathe clean air, even if she did have to go home soon.
After school she had a ritual. She was part of the school's Leadership club, so she helped out cleaning and making the school a better place. So, after every day she volunteered with other students to go around and help the custodian clean. After words she would either go to work at a flower shop that her father ran, or go home. She refused to take a bus or get one of her friends to drive her home. Traveling by any means besides walking, or riding a bike, made her nauseous. The stench of the exhaust made her sick to her stomach.
It took her an hour to walk to her house, but she didn't mind. The way was pretty and she got to walk through the park every day. Unfortunately, it was rather chilly out. She hugged her arms tightly to herself and shivered slightly. As long as it didn't rain she would be fine. She was covered head to toe with concealer and makeup. If any of the normies saw her pale green leafy skin, they would freak! Of course, she couldn't hide the ivies that wrapped around her arms and legs, but she told everyone that they were bracelets.
Venus sat down on a bench and closed her eyes. Breathing deeply. This was a nice day, despite the cold chill hanging in the air. Birds were chirping and she could hear the chattering of squirrels high in the trees. When she opened her blue eyes, she saw people walking in the far distance and sighed. She really needed to make plans with her friends soon. She had been so busy with clubs the past couple weeks, that she completely forgot about her social life.

Merida Aeris was a quiet, usually reserved student at Monster High. It came from the fact that words she stated were blunt, and also, she was quick to judge anyone based on a first impression. Some students just outright ignored or avoided her completely, worried that she would lead them away to their fate, to their end.
Of course, that's not how it worked. Fate could really mean anything, it was just a fancy word for destiny. Merida sighed as she wandered through the Park's path, not even paying attention to the beauty around her. Sometimes she dreamed of other times, when it was simpler, when life was simpler, when everything was simple.
That was when she noticed Venus sitting down on the bench in front of her. The sight didn't exactly startle her, in fact, it almost seemed to fit the surroundings perfectly.
"You seem relaxed," stated Merida calmly, floating a little bit toward her school mate. "... Very at ease."

Venus started slightly at the girl who spoke. She let out a quiet sigh of relief when she realized it wasn't a student who she knew would tease and jeer at her. She smiled at the girl, "I am, nature is the most relaxing thing in the world. It's just...simple and pure. Makes people realized that there is more to the world than the cyber world." Venus' smile grew and she patted the bench beside her. She wasn't exactly shy, she loved conversing with others, especially if they weren't making fun of her.
"What brings you to the park at this time?" she asked, quirking her eyebrow. "How rude of me, what is your name?"

"I am Merida, Merida Aeris," she introduced herself, sitting down next to Venus, slightly unsure.
She was quiet for a moment, trying to figure out a way to word her next sentence. Her mind quickly judged Venus-- deciding she was worth talking to, that she was nice, and understanding. "... I just decided to wander around, I find the modern world hard to understand... I like the park. It makes me forget."

Venus studied Merida softly for a second before smiling at her. "I can't say I understand, but I can say I know there is a big difference between now and a hundred years ago or so," she replied, "Technology has boomed, and along with it the environment has suffered," her voice saddened as she thought about this. She wished she could've been born before the industrial revolution, back when the air was clean and fresh. Venus hoped it could go back to that.
"The park is a great place to get away from all of that though," she said quickly, distracting herself. "I mean, you still see modernized stuff, but if you ignore that. It's fresh and clean. Most of the time. There are volunteers who go around and clean it! A very good cause," she hinted slightly, not wanting to push so much into it. The park was as clean as can be, if it wasn't, she wouldn't have hinted, and outright asked the girl to join volunteering.

"Three hundred years ago, the world was a very different place," Merida offered, giving a small smile toward Venus. "It has been hard to cope... it is hard to understand how everyone of this beautiful land could let it come to this..."
She glanced past the park to the buildings and the cars going down the streets. Even the harmless blue flames that made her wispy hair felt the change. "Sometimes I wished the world stayed like it had been three hundred and eleven years ago... But then, I suppose, I would not have the family I have now, and we, the students, would not have Monster High. But still... I miss the trees that used to sit where those buildings do now."

Venus sighed, pushing some of her green hair from her face. "I know what you mean," she sighed, "I may not be old, but I miss acres and acres of trees and forests, my grandmother lived in one of those for the longest time," she smiled happily, reminiscing old memories. "I love Monster High, but I whole heartedly agree with you, Merida!" She knew that even if they shared the same common interest, it was for different reasons. Venus was concerned for the environment, and she wanted the technology that existed to just become more green and for there to be less need of emitions and clear cutting.
Venus touched Merida's shoulder gently, "You can join the schools EcoClub if you wish, we plant trees and are trying to get a green space planted on school property, like a small park on grounds. Helping the students get back in touch with nature. Plus we plan trips to other countries occasionally to help around the world."

Merida blinked at the offer, thinking it over in her head for a moment before she finally smiled at Venus softly, saying in reply, "... That sounds nice. I think I will join. I am not very good at tending to young plants, but I am good at planting. On addition, if you ever plan to go to Scotland, I know the area around there very well."
While she loved and admired nature, her green thumb was unfortunately very blue, not very good at taking care of plants at all.

Venus smiled largely and tucked her hair behind her ear. She didn't even have to use her persuasion powder. "That's why it's a club, you learn things and teach others as well! You'll find a lot of kind people there!" she grinned at Merida. When the girl mentioned Scotland, Venus smiled and stared off across the park. "It would be so amazing to go to Scotland, it looks so beautiful," she sighed happily, hoping that her club would eventually go to Scotland. If it didn't, she would probably go by herself.
"Is that where you use to live?" Venus asked politely, wanting to know more about the girl. Though she knew she would have to leave before half an hour disappeared, she had to get back home or her father would be worried about her. Thinking that she had been burnt by an elemental or something absurd like that.

Merida nodded slowly. "I was born in Scotland a long, long time ago. It has not changed much, I do not think. I have not been there in some time, but I am sure it stayed relatively the same."
She tilted her head in thought, somewhat worriedly, somewhat curiously. Perhaps it had changed, just as much as Salem had since the time Monster High was built. Were the trees near the church where her lamp had been disappeared, with large buildings in its place? Was the church still there? They were quite scary thoughts, but she didn't find herself very bothered.
No, something deep inside her told her that, somehow, Scotland had not changed that much at all.

Venus smiled at Merida. "I hope you get to see it someday soon, I'm fairly certain it hasn't changed too much! However, I wasn't born back when you were, so I wouldn't know," she replied patting the girl on her shoulder. "I was born in New York, it's not the greatest place to live. Too much ecologically harming technology not enough ecofriendly technology. It's noisy and busy!" she shuddered remembering it, though there was one thing she liked about New York. The shopping experience.
"Do you have a cell phone? If you do, we should exchange numbers, in case you wanted to talk later," she replied pulling out her cell phone, smiling at the girl. She knew it was very slim the girl had a cell phone, but she still wanted to be nice and ask for it. After all, she did want to speak to the girl again, it might be very hard if they didn't have a different means of communication.

Merida blinked at the offer and gave a soft smile. "Actually, I do have the cellular phone that people seem to like... I got mine quite recently at the pressing of my caretaker." From her pocket she produced a slim flip phone - not touch screen like the popular iCoffins, and no camera option. It was just nice and simple, just the way she liked it. "What is your number, Venus? I will give you mine."

Venus smiled at the girl before going into contacts quickly and typing in Merida's name. "Mine is, 999-850-3266," she replied, smiling at the girl. Then she waved her cell phone, "What's yours?" she asked positioning her fingers over the screen to type her new friends number. "People like them because they enable quick and short messages. However, most people would love to get a letter written out by hand by their loved ones. It is so refreshing after being surrounded by technology all day," she said with a smile, occasionally she would write to her grandparents by hand. Or, her grandmother, her grandfather was a plant and therefore couldn't read.

"It is, 466-0245," Merida announced, somewhat excited that she had recalled all seven digits of her phone number. "I have just finished putting in your number. Thank you." That made three numbers in her phone. Her home number, the school, and now Venus. "I agree with you about the letters; I remember receiving a lot of them from fellow Wisps out in the Highlands... I do not receive them as often any more, as most of them have adapted since then, and well, I did not."

Venus smiled at Merida before entering the digits onto her phone and saving Merida as a contact. She lowered her phone, "You're welcome," she nodded her head, she watched the trees swaying before smiling slightly. "You miss them a lot, huh?" she asked glancing over at Merida. "Why did you come to Salem? You seem happier when you are talking about Scotland," she tilted her head slightly, looking at Merida. She shifted her books to the bench instead of her lap and crossed her legs over.
