Sabre wasn't one for eating out in the town. It probably didn't help that her grandmother was the main person in the family bringing in the money, and even then, the family wasn't exactly well-off.
Now that the school day was over, Sabre was free to do her own thing. However, today wasn't really those kind of days. Today, Sabre was going to ignore her homework like she usually did and do her part for her family - hunting.
Hunting today led her to the riverside, and she sat idly by the river, waiting for a fish to come by. Usually her grandmother would be the one to bring in the fish - and never once had she told her just how she caught the fish without a fishing rod. Today, Sabre was going to try and do it by herself.

Fenrir streched out on a limb far above the river. He could hear the gushing of the river and closed his eyes. Peace flowing through him. He yawned and fell asleep, balancing on the limb above the river. Normally, he wouldn't fall asleep in somewhere so high, but it was just so calming that he couldn't help himself. His ears twitched at some noise and his nose picked up the scent of someone.
His golden eyes scanned the river side below before spotting a girl and swinging down from the branch so he was holding on by his hands. He studied the girl for a second before dropping onto the ground, some five feet.

Sabre had caught the sound with her ears, causing them to twitch slightly. She turned toward the source of the sound - seeing someone there that she had only seen in the hallwas of the school. What was he doing here? It seemed like an odd place to see him. As far as she was aware, only her and her family lived out in the woods by Salem.
She stood up from her spot by the water, deciding to address him personally. She pondered for a moment what she should say to him, how she should start. She was hungry and tired and just wanted to head home, but she felt a little put on the spot. She hadn't expected to see someone this far out from the school. "What are you doing out here?"

Fenrir stared at the girl. Curious why she was sitting by the river, but he didn't say anything. He didn't move from his spot where he landed, and when she spoke he didn't reply at first. Instead he moved over to the river and took off his shoes before stepping in and sitting down on the bank. "Relaxing," he replied laying down and closing his eyes. "This spot is much better, you have the right idea, what's your name?"
He cracked open one eye, slightly, and looked over at her. Studying her some more. Something brushed his foot and he sat up and looked down, seeing fishes rushing by. He tilted his head slightly and licked his lips, then he glanced over at the girl before laying back down. He'd get some fish when he went home.

Sabre was quiet for a moment, watching him closely and intently as he moved and relaxed on the grass. She stayed still as she watched him study her.
She knew that she appeared underfed. She was. Her clothes didn't fit right, being too big, and she had bags under her eyes. Her hair was wild and untamed. Sabre gave a sigh when she finally spoke, answering the question that he had asked.
"... I'm Sabre. Sabre Lupe. And you...?"

"I'm Fenrir," he replied, lightly kicking some water over the river. He stood up and looked over at her. Studying her some more. "What are you doing out here?" he asked finally, curiosity getting the better of him. "Do you live here or something?" he lifted a hand up and waved around the area. He felt another fish brush against his leg and he looked down. "This river is really full of fish," he mused staring at them with hunger. He sniffed lightly and glanced up at her. Defiently some sort of wereanimal. "Do you hunt?" he asked, wondering if she was one of those wereanimals who liked to stick to their animal roots.
He knew he may have been being rude, but he didn't care all that much. As long as all the pesky annoying questions were out of the way quickly. Whoever thought he was being rude could, to his definition, go play in rush hour trafffic.

She was quiet as he asked his questions, slowly sitting down beside him and looking down at the fish in the river longingly. She could smell the cat genes coming off him, and recalled the words that her grandmother had said about cats and their curiousity, and to never take it personally. Finally, she began to answer his questions.
"... I live out here, yes, with my grandmother and little brother. I do hunt, but..." She suddenly winced, her empty stomach growling loudly. She hadn't eaten since this morning, as she didn't trust the cafeteria food at the school. "... I am not very good at it. My grandmother is better. I do not always want her doing it, though. She is becoming weaker in her old age."

Fenrir hummed to himself softly after she finished speaking. Then he looked over at her, "Why doesn't she teach you to hunt?" he paused and looked around slightly, "Why didn't you bring a fishing pole or spear or something to catch the fish with?" he asked, frowning. "Are you going to try to catch the fish with your bear hands?" he stared at her confused. He had never tried it before.
Without waiting for her replied, he stood up and pulled his pants up to his knees. He then walked until he was almost knee deep in the river and stood there, staring at the fish. After a few minutes he dunked his hand in and tried to catch a fish. It darted out of his way and he frowned. "This is difficult," he muttered to himself.

"We do not own a fishing rod, and my grandmother can catch a fish with her hands..." Sabre admitted, watching him closely as he stood in the water. "... It is hard. I cannot see how she still manages to do it, she is getting weak and slow..."
It was true that age and their life was not treating her grandmother well, and just the feeling of what was happening to her made Sabre's heart sink into her empty stomach. She hopped off the land and into the water next to Fenrir, deciding to try again.

Fenrir studied Sabre for a second or two before turning to look at the rushing water and thought. "Your grandmother must be a wise woman," he mused softly staring at the water before laughing and straightening, "I could never have the patience to stay and catch enough fish for a family," he smiled at her, "You look like you have the patience, you'll be able to catch the fish in no time," he nodded before attempting to grab another fish. Failing once again.
He stared at his hands before looking at his claws. Maybe he was going about this all wrong. With a thoughtful look he made his hand into a claw before raising it slightly, ready to strike. As a fish started to swim past him, he jabbed his hand down right where the fish was headed, and managed to catch it. He smiled until the fish started to flop. It was extremely slippery and managed to knock Fenrir off balance and caused him to splash loudly into the river.

Sabre went to his side immediately, a little mad that he had managed to catch a fish, but also worried as he had fallen into the water. She leaned forward a bit toward him, holding out a hand for him.
"Are you alright?" she asked, tilting her head somewhat to the side. "... At least you managed to catch one."

Fenrir sputtered in surprise and sat up. He then proceeded to laugh loudly and shake his head. He accepted Sabre's hand and stood up. attempting to squeeze some water from his shirt before shaking his head. Causing water to splatter around. He half-apologized to Sabre before smiling at her. "Use your claws and aim where they are going to be," he explained to her, "And I didn't catch a fish, I was able to grab it," he continued, shrugging his shoulders and rubbing his back.

"... Which is more than what I have ever managed to do," Sabre pointed out, giving an annoyed sigh. She looked away for a moment, eying the fish somewhat hungrily and with hatred. She really wanted to catch one.

"Just keep trying, I'm sure you'll be as good as your grandmother one day," Fenrir said with a smile. Shaking his head again, trying to get all the water out. He hated being in wet clothes. He peeled the wet material away from his stomach and groaned. The material was heavier now that it was wet. He wadded back to the shore and stripped his shirt off and flopped onto the ground staring up at the sky. "Negative thinking doesn't get anyone anywhere," he pointed towards the sky as if making a point. He pushed himself up onto this elbows and looked at her. "If you want, use something like a net to catch them. Like my shirt," he lifted it, "Grab the two ends, submerge it in the water to the ground and then when a fish swims over it, quickly lift up and toss the fish towards shore!"
